A goose with its legs tied together was rescued after being thrown into the Irish Sea.
It was found struggling to stay alive, but thankfully, a member of the public witnessed him being tossed into the sea on the Coast Road in Clontarf. Rescuers from Kildare Animal Foundation used a canoe to save the goose which they have named Lir.
Lir was taken to Eden Farm Animal Sanctuary in a traumatised state.
Staff there say he has a soft, deformed beak which is either a genetic deformity or the result of prolonged neglect and malnutrition.
Lir was terrified when rescuers approached him and brought him to safety.
He was even reluctant to use a small pond provided for him even though his instinct is to be in water.

He is currently in an aviary at Eden and is undergoing healing from his ordeal.
“The most important aspect of his healing will be the presence of the other residents at Eden, particularly the fact that he can see and hear other geese who are so obviously enjoying their lives. When he arrived, he honked as soon as he heard them. He is in a safe aviary where he can see and hear everyone and as soon as he is able to eat, we will let him out to be with them,” said an Eden spokesperson.
