There are plenty of activities for the whole family so we will head to Carrickfergus first and the Redwood Dog Fest. It takes place on June 16.. This is the second anniversary event and there will be craft stalls, refreshments, ballot prizes and a fun dog show. The cost is £5 per dog and this year proceeds are going to Jackie Petrie Voluntary Animal Rescue to help her with the work she does in finding lost pets. If you enjoy keeping up to date with what’s happening on the literary scene, the Belfast Book Festival is your ticket. It’s returning to the city from 7 to 16 June. This festival is for everyone. For the regular literary festival-goer or those who simply wish to broaden their knowledge of the local arts scene and the diversity. In 2019 festival-goers will be treated to the best international and local talent at The Crescent and partner venues across the city. If you have never been to the Festival before, make this year your first.

If you’re in the Dungannon area, take advantage of the film club movie nights and support the group. Admission is only £5 and the films are shown at Ranfurly House and the Hill of the O Neill. Dungannon Film Club is a not-for-profit voluntary community organisation and its aim is to bring people together in a relaxed environment to share great movies.

Cookstown Continental Market is always a tasty day out for the whole family. It takes place from June 1 to 2 (9am-9pm on the Saturday and 11am-6pm on the Sunday). Food, flavours, sights and sounds of Europe and beyond return to Cookstown’s town centre for this two day event along William Street. It’s been organised by Mid Ulster District Council, in partnership with Cookstown Town Centre Forum. It is part of Market Place Europe’s spring tour, and will feature over 40 traders from Morocco, India, Belgium, France, Russia, Holland, Spain and China. They will set up stalls alongside local traders from the weekly street market. There will be entertainment and live music across the weekend.

Ride on Belfast is a great opportunity to show your support for everything green. Belfast’s annual mass cycle commute from Queen’s University to City Hall leaves Queen’s at 8am and arrives at City Hall 20 minutes later for a free breakfast. The event is designed to get people out of their car and show how easy, safe and stress free it is getting to work by bike. This initiative is supported by Belfast City Council

Dunluce Castle is located on the cliffs, east of Portrush along the Causeway Coast towards the Giants Causeway. It was built sometime between the 1400s and 1600s. It’s an excellent venue for a good day. You can also take in Portballintrae and Bushmills and some Game of Thrones related events.

Slieve Gullion is another good spot for a family day out. There is an action-packed weekend of fairy folklore and giant adventures taking place on Saturday, June 1 from 10am to 6pm. This is a free event for all the family, and there will be self-guided walks, arts and crafts, music, magic, storytelling and theatre as well as opportunities to enjoy the best local food and drink.
Both days feature theatre performances with a cast of woodland folk with magic shows starting at 10.15am, storytelling starting at 10.30am, and stage performances at 11am, noon, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm, so plan your visit to take it all in. In between all this activity, take the opportunity to walk the fairy trail in your own time and meet and chat to the characters. Parking is limited and remember to pack comfortable shoes.
