A smiley face bag containing white powder was discovered on the ground outside a shop in East Antrim by a vigilant passer by, prompting police to issue a warning.
Police say it has not yet been tested but they are fairly confident it’s an illegal drug – and they say it could easily have been picked up by a child oblivious to the contents.
“Whilst the quantity of whatever the substance is appears to be very small, it was found in a public area where young children would play.
“The smiley faces on the bag may appear appealing to a toddler. It would not take a large quantity of cocaine or amphetamine to cause medical issues in a young child,” said a police spokesperson.
“It goes without saying that possessing controlled drugs is an offence. If this does not present a deterrent for you, can I ask that you dispose of your toxic leftovers somewhere that does not present dangers to the public,” said the police spokesperson.
