A giant Christmas bauble which was washed up on the banks of the River Thames in London, was initially mistaken for an explosive device.

The ‘device’ was seen near Wapping in east London, so police went to investigate.

The Tower Hamlets Police then declared it a simple glittery Christmas object which posed no threat. And that led to a string of jokes on Twitter.
