Lost is the TV finale that has most disappointed fans (27.3%), despite being aired over a decade ago, according to a survey.
Line of Duty’s season 6 finale aired on Sunday evening to many fans’ disappointment – current ratings are just five out of ten on IMDb. In light of this and the controversial endings that divide so many fans, OnBuy.com surveyed 1,517 fans to find out which TV series’ endings disappointed them the most.
Lost is the TV show with the most disappointing ending according to the survey. Celebrating its 11th anniversary on May 23, the series finale seems to be a controversial topic for fans even after a decade, as it received 27.3% of the votes.
Game of Thrones comes in second place. The eighth and final season was released almost 2 years after the previous one, leaving fans with high expectations for the last six episodes. But the dramatic plots and acclaimed production that gave the series a whopping 59 Primetime Emmy Awards were not enough to make an impression on viewers – 25% were left disappointed with the final season.
Making the top three most disappointing TV series finales is the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother. After 9 seasons, fans were excited to see Ted finally meeting the mother of his children, but it seems that the end did not meet their expectations as 17% voted it as disappointing.
Following closely behind in fourth place is Sherlock (16%). Many critics have praised the British TV show, which won several awards for a variety of categories; however, some fans are still not convinced about how things ended up for Benedict Cumberbatch’s character.
Prison Break claims fifth place with 13% of the votes. The last episode of five seasons was aired almost four years ago, but fans seem to still be left bitterly disappointed with the main characters’ unwrapped and controversial closure. The same happened with Dexter, which comes in sixth place with 12%. After the series finale left critics and fans frustrated when it aired in 2013, producers have announced last October that a new ten-episode Dexter revival limited series is coming in 2021 to finally give fans the ending they deserve.
When breaking down the results per gender, OnBuy.com found out that the most disappointing TV series’ ending is also a controversial topic for men and women. For men, Game of Thrones comes in first (26.4%) and Lost slides in second place with 24.2% – the opposite was found for women, which saw Lost’s ending as more disappointing (25.5%) than Game of Thrones’ finale 24.3%.
