102-year-old woman conned out of £1000

A 102-year-old woman has been conned out of £1,000 by a man who called at her door, asking for her pension.

This incident occurred at Newpark in Magheramorne yesterday (Wednesday, January 30) at around 5pm.

Police say a man in his 40s entered the home and demanded cash. He subsequently left with her pension money.

“The householder was understandably left extremely shaken by the ordeal.

“It is absolutely despicable and morally reprehensible that a vulnerable older person has been targeted by an unscrupulous criminal. Taking pension money is unconscionable.

“I am appealing to the community to help us identify and locate the person responsible. He’s described as being in his 40s and was wearing a dark-coloured fleece and blue yacht cap.

“If you saw anyone matching this description, or if you captured any dashcam footage in the area on Wednesday evening, please get in touch with us by calling 101 quoting reference 1019  30/1/19,” said Detective Sergeant Leighanne Robinson.

If you have any information which can assist in identifying this suspect and returning this lady’s pension please contact detectives in Ballymena CID quoting incident number 1019 30/01/19.
