Newtownabbey continues to be a hotbed of anti-social activity.
Underage drinking, damage to sports pitches through lighting fires, and throwing glass bottles against football pitch cross bars are issues that police have dealt with over the weekend.
Beat boxes are being played loudly and young people are littering and shouting foul and abusive language.
Police say this is not acceptable behaviour.
“Once again Officers from Newtownabbey Neighbourhood Policing Team spent the Saturday late shift patrolling areas with high levels of antisocial behaviour.
“We spent most of the night patrolling the fields between Jordanstown School and Ulster University grounds, Jordanstown Loughshore, and along Newtownabbey Way, from Mossley Pavilion to Corrs Corner. A considerable number of names were taken and their details have been forwarded to our Youth Diversion Officer,” said a police spokesperson.
Police say their presence is usually in response to complaints from residents.
“Some may also suggest that our young people are bored and need somewhere to go. This may or may not be the case. We have no issues with young people gathering and enjoying themselves, however underage drinking, causing damage to sports pitches by lighting fires, throwing glass bottles against football pitch cross bars, playing beat boxes loudly, littering and shouting foul and abusive language is not acceptable behaviour,” added the spokesperson.
And police are continuing to appeal to parents to be aware of where their children are at all times.
“Once again, we appeal to parents to know where your children are at the weekend. We will continue to patrol our ASB hotspots and will deal with any offences as appropriate,” added the spokesperson.
