Up to a quarter of all COVID-19 cases in Northern Ireland are the Delta variant, first identified in India.
Based on data from Great Britain, the Delta variant is likely to be 40-60% more transmissible than Alpha variant, and to be associated with a 2.4x increased risk of hospital admission, according to a Department of Health report.
In addition, while vaccination remains effective it is somewhat less effective against the Delta variant.
Meanwhile, 109 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Northern Ireland.
