A controlled explosion has been carried out on a pipe bomb-type device which sparked a security alert in the Dundela Street area of south Belfast.
Police and Ammunition Technical Officers attended the scene following the discovery of the suspicious object.
The device has been now been declared as viable and has been taken away for further examination.
Detective Sergeant Natalie Ash said: “We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during this time. A cordon remains in place at Dundela Street as our enquiries continue.
