A 17-year-old is being questioned by police after a woman sustained a very serious head injury in an alleged homophobic attack in Strabane early this morning.
The 38-year-old was apparently attacked by a man with a cordless drill in the Railway Street area at around 2am.
The teenager was detained by police a short distance from the scene and remains in custody at present.
Detective Sergeant Brian Reid says it was a brutal attack and the injuries sustained by the victim are extremely grave.
“We are exploring a possible homophobic motive for the crime and we are appealing for witnesses to get in touch with us. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man carrying a drill in the area at around the time of the assault,” he says.
Police would especially like to speak to anyone who may have captured footage, either on mobile phone or dashcam.
