Young Belfast teacher dies after ‘tragic accident at home’

A book of condolence has been opened at St Oliver Plunkett Primary School in west Belfast following the tragic death of a teacher.

Fionnaula Kennedy.
Fionnaula Kennedy.

Fionnuala Kennedy, who was in her late 20s, is understood to have fallen down the stairs at her home at the weekend.

The P2 teacher passed away in hospital on Monday.

A statement released by the principal Mr Paddy McCabe reads:

Words cannot begin to convey the heartbreak we feel for Fionnuala, her husband Ciaran and son Lorcan as well as her parents, siblings, extended family and friends.

Death at any stage is an unspeakable tragedy but the death of one so young, so full of life, love, compassion and beauty only compounds it further.

I would ask that you keep Fionnuala, her family and friends in your prayers and thoughts.

As ever, I want to thank you for your continued support, in times like these it is particularly appreciated.

Hundreds of tributes have been paid to Ms Kennedy via the school’s Facebook page.
