Yes, you laughed, didn’t you? Maybe you stifled a giggle or laughed out loud. Perhaps you really didn’t want to admit that you got the joke behind the funny place name. From Craigadick to Trailcock Road, from Muff to Cock Mountain, here is a compilation of place names that never fail to make us smile.
Cock Mountain, Newry
Yes, you laughed because it’s called Cock Mountain. It’s situated near Spelga Dam in the Mourne Mountains and you will come across it if you enjoy rambling, climbing or outdoor pursuits.
Fanny Wylie’s Bridge
This small stone bridge is on the Northern Irish border. And apparently, there has been numerous ghostly encounters by the people who lived in the area. Apparently, an eerie figure of a small man would jump out and mutter, then disappear. Many people have also recounted walking along the road late at night with the feeling of the hairs on the back of their necks standing up. They have also reported hearing ghostly footsteps. The last known appearance was the early 1960s.
Trailcock Road
This is in Carrickfergus. There is also a Trailcock Close. Has anyone ever laughed when you told them your address?

Craigadick
Craigadick is just outside Maghera, and you may come across it if you’re travelling on the Glenshane Pass.
The hilarity doesn’t stop inside Northern Ireland though – here are some more laugh out loud place names:
Muff, Co Donegal
Poop Creek, Oregon
Willies, France
Bumpass, Virginia
Knob Noster, Missouri
