An adorable toddler who went viral for his impressive use of chopsticks, has been battling aggressive cancer for over year.
The two-year-old boy, called Haihai, from Inner Mongolia became a star after videos of him using chopsticks while eating emerged on Chinese social media.
Soon after the video went viral, it was revealed that Haihai was battling cancer.
According to the South China Morning Post, Haihai was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia in January 2018.
Since being diagnosed, he has learnt to be independent.
But the family has been affected in other ways. Haihai’s grandmother was told she has terminal breast cancer soon after. But because of the family’s financial situation, she sacrificed her own treatment to save Haihai.
Borrowing money from relatives and friends has turned relations against them, and this has prompted Haihai’s parents to turn to social media to pay the bills.
“He always behaves when he has to have his blood drawn or have an injection, but he can’t help but be scared during lumbar punctures,” his mum told Chinese media.
“After all, he’s just a little boy. No matter how strong he is, such pain is hard to take.”
So far, the toddler has undergone more than 30 lumbar punctures, where a needle is inserted into the spine.
“The needles that pierce his little body also pierce my heart. The pain I feel is incomparable,” mum added.
