The Australian government is planning to kill millions of stray cats by airdropping poison sausages.
The aim is to save native species which the animals are preying on.
Cats are already being trapped and shot, but this new method is aimed at wiping out two million felines by 2020.
Kangaroo meat is mixed with chicken fat, herbs, spices and a poison used to kill rats, according to the New York Times. The sausages are made in a factory near Perth.
The cats die then within 15 minutes.
Shootings still equate for 83% of cat killings. But PETA Australia has called the poisonous sausages ‘horrifically cruel’.
Conservationists say the government is failing to address factors such as development, logging and mining, and that it’s using the cull as a distraction.
