A dentist woke up with a lilting Northern Irish accent following surgery on her tonsils, according to 7news.com.au.
Angie Yen, who was born in Taiwan and moved to Australia aged eight, started documenting her daily updates on TikTok about living with foreign accent syndrome. She also struggles to pronounce certain words in her daily life.
This can be triggered by a head injury, stroke or surgery.
However, Angie said her voice sounded different just 10 days after a tonsillectomy in April 2021, and her accent shifts from the USA to a Northern Irish accent to a Southern Irish lilt.

Speaking exclusively to 7Life.com.au, Angie – who has never visited Ireland and has no family connections there – says her accent ‘hasn’t completely reverted back’ to her native Australian voice.
“I still have a light American and Northern Irish lilt. It gets thicker when I’m stressed, tired or run down,” Angie says.
