Stricter lockdown measures are being introduced in Victoria in Australia following a rise in coronavirus cases.
A nightly curfew is being introduced and almost all trips outdoors will be banned after Australia’s second largest state recorded over 600 new infections in one day.
The state has been declared a disaster zone as people were told to stay at home. In Melbourne, home to five million, police will enforce an 8pm curfew with fines expected to reach thousands of pounds.
From 6pm tonight, Melbourne will move to Stage 4 restrictions with stronger rules to stop the spread of coronavirus
That includes a curfew from 8pm to 5am, which also takes effect from tonight.
