A comeback concert by K-pop group BTS attracted a massive global audience, with Netflix reporting 18.4 million viewers tuning in to the livestream.
The one-hour show, held on Saturday, marked a major moment for fans as it was the first time all seven members – Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook – had taken the stage together since October 2022, before stepping away to complete mandatory military service.
The free event took place at Gwanghwamun Square and drew a live crowd of over 100,000 people.
The performance also launched the group’s sold-out 82-date world tour and was streamed via Netflix to audiences in more than 190 countries. Only about 22,000 fans with tickets were allowed into the main venue, while thousands more watched from nearby streets on large outdoor screens.
With such large crowds expected, authorities deployed roughly 7,000 police officers, including specialist units equipped with anti-drone technology, to manage safety.
The livestream proved hugely popular, topping Netflix charts in 24 countries.
It also highlights the platform’s growing push into live events, following major broadcasts like the 2024 boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which drew over 108 million viewers worldwide.
