Disturbances occur for third night

Disturbances have broken out for a third consecutive night.

Young people were involved in unrest in Carrickfergus on Easter Monday night. Fires were lit as police tried to quell the disorder.

It follows ‘orchestrated’ rioting and petrol bombing in Cloughfern and Carrickfergus on Sunday night which led to five PSNI officers being injured.

On Monday afternoon, masked loyalist bands marched through a number of towns, including Ballymena and Portadown. The PSNI is investigating the marches, and the Parades Commission is understood not to have been notified.

In Londonderry, police also came under attack during unrest, with children as young as 12 involved.

A suspicious object in Derry sparked a security alert. Police and army officers examined a suspicious object, which was discovered in the area at around 4.20pm yesterday afternoon (April 5th). It has since been declared an elaborate hoax.

The object has been taken away for further examination and officers would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with any information about this incident, to contact them at Strand Road on 101 quoting reference number 1071 of 05/04/21.
