Face masks will become mandatory in Italy from 6am to 6pm in public places.
The new rule kicks in today (Monday) as the country aims to crack down on a recent increase in COVID-19 cases. Nightclubs have also closed.
Italy recently imposed mandatory testing for all people arriving from Croatia, Greece, Malta and Spain.
During the initial stage of the pandemic, Italy became one of the hardest hit countries along with China.
“We cannot nullify the sacrifices made in past months. Our priority must be that of opening schools in September, in full safety,” health minister Roberto Speranza said in a Facebook statement.
