MADNESS: Youths vandalise lifebuoy in V36 Park in Newtownabbey

A number of youths removed a lifebuoy from the V36 Park and threw it over the bridge.

Police have condemned this act of vandalism which could have had ‘fatal consequences.’

And they want parents to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing at all times.

“Lifebuoys are placed beside waterways for use in life threatening situations. Imagine a young child or someone incapable of treading water falling into a fast flowing river or deep lake and when you look for this vital life saving equipment, it’s been removed and thrown away like rubbish by the inconsiderate types in our community,” said a PSNI spokesperson.

Police say they responded to a report of a group of young people at the park throwing a lifebuoy over the bridge and into the trees below.

“Kids, think before you do something stupid that could have potentially fatal consequences that you will ultimately regret. Parents, have a word with your children about being responsible young people,” added the spokesperson.

Call the PSNI on 101.
