A Memorial Service will be held at Carrickfergus Methodist Church on 19 November to remember refugees and migrants who died before reaching their destination.
Organised by Embrace NI and open to everyone of any faith background, the service begins at 3pm.
There will be no casket or burial, as the precious lives being commemorated never made it here or to safety anywhere. They died before reaching the security they risked their lives to find.
According to the UN Refugee Agency, so far in 2023, over 2,500 lives have been lost while trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe, and this number does not account for all the lives lost along dangerous land routes.
Sadly, the UN Refugee Agency sees ‘no end in sight’ to the lives lost as people seek refuge, risking death and gross human rights violations in search of freedom and security.
