At the Alley Theatre in Strabane, a show called Hatch is being staged during the weekend of Oct 5 and 6. Hatch is a story of transformation and new beginnings and it’s suitable for four to 10-year-olds and their families.
Meet Bláithín who loves caterpillars, moths and butterflies. Follow her on her adventurous journey with Uncle Rusty to find Pearl, the most extraordinary butterfly with the most exquisite colourful wings. Hatch is full of Fidget Feet’s unique blend of music, comedy, theatre, contemporary dance and aerial dance. Hatch weaves craft workshops, Irish language and Irish dancing into this story. Hatch is made in association with Siamsa Tíre and Shortworks Network, Ireland and support from the Arts Council of Ireland.

Tenx9 is at the Black Box in Belfast on Wednesday, October 23. This is a storytelling event, started in Belfast by Paul Doran and Pádraig Ó Tuama in 2011, where nine people have up to ten minutes to tell a true story from their lives. This special One World Festival event will include true stories on the theme of ‘Home from Home’, including some from refugees who have made their home in Northern Ireland.

The Randox Northern Ireland Potato Festival will take place on October 5.
This is a heady mix of family fun, a celebration of world-renowned potato breeder John Clarke and a chance to sample the delights of the agri-food industry which thrives in the Causeway Coast and Glens. Now in its seventh year, the line-up for Festival Day includes a programme of activities and attractions for all ages, including meet the potato growers and producers, artisan foods, children’s activities, cookery demonstrations, talks, helicopter flights and more. The Portrush Beer and Food Festival takes place on the north coast on the weekend of October 5 and 6. This is a celebration of artisan producers brought to the area by the team behind Lacada Brewery Co-Operative. The festival will be held inside Portrush Town Hall on the Friday and Saturday and you’ll find the artisan market outside around Station Square and the amphitheatre on Saturday from 11am to 4pm and on the Sunday from noon to 5pm. Entry to the market is free.

To Belfast Zoo and there’s a great event taking place called Science Behind The Zoo on October 5.
The zoo is inviting young people aged 15 to 18 to come and learn more about the varied career paths available within the field of animal care, welfare and conservation.
The event will allow young people who currently have a desire to work in the zoology field to gain a taster of life in the zoo. The one-day event gives participants the chance to meet zoo educators, curators and veterinary staff through a combination of classroom learning, hands-on experience and behind-the-scenes activity.
If you are considering a career in the field of animal care, come along to the half-day taster of life in the zoo where all your questions can be answered. The event will run from 9.15am to 2.15pm. The session is open to anyone aged between 15 and 18.

Darkside Tours: Voices from the Past is a spooktacular event taking place on Friday, October 25 at the Ulster Folk And Transport Museum. Come and hear the dark stories from Ballycultra and meet some of the creepy characters this Halloween. Guides will take you around the lamp-lit streets where strange and ghostly happenings will occur. Hear the real voices of the people of the past from recently unearthed voice recordings of those who were connected to the 19th century buildings. You’ll be spooked by the spine-tingling tales and it’s not for the faint hearted.
This is a walking tour so appropriate outdoor clothing is essential. This event is suitable for those aged 12 and above. The tours will take place at 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
