Scammers are using local dialling codes in a bid to dupe householders into handing over cash.
One home owner today received a call from 028 93 709899 which appears initially to be a Ballyclare or Carrickfergus number. However it was a recorded message from a telecoms provider claiming that the internet had been used overseas. It invited the caller to press option 2.
Police are continuing to warn home owners against elaborate scams as some have unwittingly handed over thousands of pounds to criminals.
Earlier this year it was revealed that Northern Ireland people are being scammed out of £14,000 each day in phone and postal scams.
In February this year, £391,571 was stolen from people across the country who parted with cash in 43 separate incidents.
