Undercover footage that reportedly shows sick cows being smuggled into a Polish abattoir and sold on without inspections, has raised concerns.
Footage from the slaughterhouse in the Polish region of Mazovia appears to show cows being dragged out of lorries and into the slaughterhouse using ropes.
Reporters from Superwizjer, a Polish investigative show broadcast on channel TVN24, infiltrated the slaughterhouse last year. A reporter worked undercover at the slaughterhouse for almost three weeks.
The footage appears to show workers at the slaughterhouse removing evidence from the cows, such as tumours.
The undercover journalist Patryk Szczepaniak told the Guardian that workers at the slaughterhouse would be fed beef from the dead animals during breaks. A vegetarian himself, he ate the meat to try to remain undercover.
