People around the world are marking the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Almost 3,000 people died in New York City, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
Militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center while a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed on land in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
A number of memorial ceremonies will take place across the USA and around the world.
The 20th anniversary has prompted people to recall on social media where they were when news began filtering through in 2001.
