A 23-year-old man was punched in the face and had his phone stolen by a man armed with a hammer in Portrush.
The incident happened just before 3am yesterday morning (Sunday, December 15) at Mark Street.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses.
Police say the man was assaulted by an unknown male who had approached him as he got out of his parked car.
He was punched several times in the face. The assailant then produced what is believed to be a hammer before stealing the man’s phone. A second unknown man approached the parked car and took the car keys from a second man who was sitting in the vehicle at the time.
The two suspects smashed the windows.
Detective Inspector Winters is appealing to anyone who was in Mark Street in and around 2.30am/3.15am and who may have witnessed this incident, or anyone who has any information that could assist with enquiries, to contact police at Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 431 of 15/12/19.
