A woman in her 30s and her baby remain in hospital today following a stabbing in Magheramorne near Larne which tragically claimed the life of a second child.
Three people sustained stab wounds at an isolated farmhouse at Bankhall Road on Monday morning. A young child died and the woman and baby were both injured. The woman reportedly remains critically ill.
Police are treating it as a domestic incident.
The woman is understood to be the mother of both children.
Two older children are understood to have been at school at the time and the children’s father was reportedly at work.
Neighbours reported hearing a PSNI helicopter in the area at just after 10am on Monday with emergency services rushing to the scene.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police can confirm that an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young child in the Larne area.
“A woman in her 30s and a baby are currently receiving hospital treatment for injuries.
“The investigation is at an early stage and police are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.”
