The emergency alert system to warn people of immediate public safety risks will be tested on Sunday, April 23 at 3pm.
Notifications will be sent to tens of millions of phones across the UK, whenever there is an immediate threat to life.
Only the emergency services, government departments and other public bodies will be able to issue the alerts.
Emergency Alerts will appear on the home screen of your device.
You will hear a loud siren-like sound and feel a vibration for up to 10 seconds.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to receive the warnings from the government, follow these steps: (iPhone) Settings -> Notifications -> (scroll right down) Emergency Alerts -> Extreme/Severe Alerts (swipe to off).
For Android: Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings > Wireless Emergency Alerts > Emergency Alerts > toggle off.
🚨 At 3pm on Sunday 23 April, there will be a national test of the UK Emergency Alerts service. As we have seen in other countries, Emergency Alerts help keep you safe if there is an immediate risk to life by sending an alert direct to your mobile phone.https://t.co/M1mHgvCAB6 pic.twitter.com/nKnk4Y2KBS
