Five more deaths as a result of COVID-19

A further five people have died as a result of contracting COVID-19 in Northern Ireland, the Department of Health has announced.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 435.


There are a further 41 positive cases.

These are figures for the reporting period from 10am on Saturday May 9 to 10am on Sunday May 10.

The total number of people tested is 32,634.

Of those tested, 4,119 are confirmed as having the coronavirus.

Meanwhile an alert system to rank the threat level of coronavirus in England is set to be launched by Prime Minister Boris Johnson tonight in his lockdown speech.

The system will use a scale of one to five and it will be adjusted according to data.

Mr Johnson will also outline any changes to the lockdown measures in his speech at 7pm.

It comes after the Prime Minister introduced a new slogan, telling the public to “stay alert, control the virus, save lives”.
