Two men arrested following paramilitary-style attack in Larne

Two men have been arrested following a suspected paramilitary style attack in Larne on Tuesday (June 23).

A 19-year-old man was assaulted by a number of masked men armed with baseball bats in the Linn Glen area.


Detective Sergeant Lyttle said it was reported that the man had been in the Larne area when a number of men ordered him to get into a vehicle.

“From here they drove to Linn Glen where there were two masked men armed with baseball bats waiting for him.

“They assaulted him before leaving the area. The man managed to make his way home and was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.”

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

They were both released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Lyttle said this was a ‘vicious and brutal assault’, which police are treating as a paramilitary-style attack.

“We must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and stop this from happening to anyone else.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident, or has information they think could assist this investigation, to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 354 24/06/20,” he added.
