Security alerts across Belfast were ‘hoaxes’

A series of security alerts which led to the evacuation of 15 homes across Belfast has now ended.

All the objects discovered were declared hoaxes.


Four suspicious objects were discovered in the Ormeau Road and Lavinia Square areas of south Belfast and the Lepper Street and Victoria Parade areas in north Belfast.

Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick said army technical officers attended and declared all of the objects as hoaxes.

“In total, 15 homes were evacuated during the alerts, which caused significant disruption to the residents in the area. We thank those directly impacted for their cooperation during this security operation.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101 quoting reference 692 20/08/20.
