A 42-year-old man arrested in the Cookstown area today in relation to an ongoing investigation into criminality linked to the East Tyrone New IRA has been released following questioning.
It’s in connection with the illegal disposal of tyres by the East Tyrone New IRA and its associated criminal enterprises for terrorist funding.
The man was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite in Belfast but has been released following questioning.
Detective Inspector Martin Cush from the Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU) said the arrest follows that arrest of two men, aged 41 and 42, on Wednesday. Officers conducted four searches and uncovered a substantial sum of cash concealed in a recycling bin and safe. The cash was seized for further examination and the two men were later released following questioning.
“Where possible, we will continue to disrupt violent dissident republicans but need help from the public in tackling their criminal activities. They are reckless, manipulative and they exploit their own communities. Our objective is to keep people safe and protect them from these violent groups and any information we receive can increase our chances of success.
“Policing with the community is at the heart of what we do and I would strongly urge people to report any suspicions they have about dangerous and illegal activity to police on 101 or alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous,” added Detective Inspector Martin Cush.
