Images of a firearm and a number of other items seized yesterday (Tuesday) following a search in the west Belfast area, have been released by detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit.
The items include a firearm, a quantity of ammunition, a silencer, an imitation firearm, two stun guns, two cans of pepper spray and an extendable baton. They have been taken away for further examination.
The search followed the arrest of a 32-year-old man earlier in the day, on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He remains in police custody at this time.
Detective Inspector Anthony Kelly said the seizure of these firearms and other items demonstrates police’s commitment to removing harm from the community.
“I would encourage anyone with information regarding criminality to contact police on 101,” he said.
And he added: “Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” he added.
