Controlled explosions were carried out on two viable devices which were found in the New Lodge in north Belfast this afternoon, police have said.
Children were evacuated from a creche and people moved from homes and offices following the discovery of pipe bomb-style devices.
The devices were found near a community centre in Churchill Street at around 1pm today (Wednesday).
Army bomb experts carried out controlled explosions. The security alert led to the closure of several roads.
Police said a reckless act should have no place in society and they have appealed for information.
