Four masked men armed with hammers, forced their way into a house in north Belfast and assaulted a man inside.
A woman in her 20s, who was also in the property was injured after being headbutted.
The incident happened at Keadyville Avenue at around 9:20pm.
Detectives investigating the aggravated burglary in north Belfast last night (Thursday 24 October) are appealing for witnesses and information.
Detective Sergeant Michael Maguire said police received a report at 9:35pm.
“Two of the suspects are reported to have assaulted a man inside the house with a hammer. A woman, aged in her 20s, who was also in the property, intervened and was headbutted, sustaining a minor injury to her mouth.
“The man, aged in his 30s, attended hospital for treatment to minor injuries,” he said.
Damage to a door and windows and a number of household items was also reported.
One of the suspects was reported to have worn a navy tracksuit with stripes along the sleeves and bottoms.
“I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area between 9:20pm and the time the incident was reported to us and who saw a number of men in the area acting suspiciously,” added the Detective Sergeant.
