Police have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of a number of offences.
It follows the discovery of an improvised explosive device which was made safe by army technical officers in Broughshane on Tuesday night.
Police said they received a report of an attempt to set a car on fire in Woodland Park. Damage had been caused to a window of the vehicle.
Detective Sergeant Leighanne Miller said police subsequently arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of offences, including possessing an explosive device with intent to endanger property, attempted arson endangering life and criminal damage.
He remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around this time last night and saw what happened, or saw any suspicious vehicles or activity in the area to contact detectives in Ballymena on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1381 of 13/11/18,” she added.
