Almost 50 motorists have been detected driving over 20mph outside Model Primary School in Carrickfergus, since the new speed limit was introduced yesterday (Wednesday).
Fines and penalty points will be issued to those who refuse to driver within the 20mph speed restriction, according to police.
Advice and guidance was offered to those 46 drivers who were noted travelling in excess of the 20mph speed limit.
“Please help us to keep people safe by adhering to the speed limits,” added a police spokesperson.
A new part-time speed limit was put in place at the Model Primary School on the A2 Belfast Road from Wednesday (August 28).
The 20mph signs will have amber lights which will flash when the reduced speed limit is in effect. There will also be warning signs on the approaches to the speed limit.
