AQE transfer test cancelled

This year’s AQE transfer test has been cancelled.

P7 pupils were due to sit the test on 27 February, but fears had been expressed about the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

AQE has written to primary school principals.

Three tests had been due to take place but were axed. The other test provider, Post Primary Transfer Consortium (PPTC) had already announced their tests would not proceed.

The Education Minister Peter Weir said he was disappointed the AQE would not go ahead, attributing the cancellation to ‘public health’.

A number of grammar schools had already said they would not use the test this year.

Alternative criteria will be put in place to admit pupils.
