Around 2,900 jobs to be axed at Carphone Warehouse

Dixons Carphone is set to cut almost 3,000 jobs under plans to close all 531 of its standalone Carphone Warehouse stores.

The retailer said the announcement was due to the change in how consumers buy their mobile devices, connectivity and technology.

The standalone stores are set to close on 3 April.

The company will then turn its attention to the 305 Currys PCWorld stores and online.

Around 40% of staff will be redeployed to new roles within the company, but around 2,900 will be made redundant.
