The Christian owners of Ashers have won their appeal in the ‘gay cake’ discrimination case.
The Supreme Court ruled that Ashers’ refusal to bake a cake with a slogan in support of same-sex marriage was not discriminatory.
The case began back in 2014 when Gareth Lee approached the bakery and it refused to create the cake with the slogan ‘Support Gay Marriage’ and a photo of Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie.
Mr Lee sued Ashers Baking Company for discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and political beliefs.
Ashers lost the case and the appeal, but this morning (Wednesday) the firm won its appeal at the Supreme Court.
