Ashgrove Primary School in Carnmoney, Co Antrim, is celebrating gaining the Rights Respecting Schools Award, Gold Standard.
The Northern Ireland Children’s Commissioner Koulla Yiasouma visited the school this morning (Tuesday) to mark this milestone.
The Gold Standard is granted by Unicef UK to schools that have fully embedded children’s rights throughout the school in its policies, practice and ethos.
To achieve gold level, Ashgrove, which is headed by principal Mr Robert Smith, was assessed by two Unicef assessors who inspected its overall rights respecting work. The work in the school is led by Mrs Carberry.
The children enjoyed an assembly and even had the chance to try on the cape of rights.
