Community Safety Wardens are back on the beat across Antrim and Newtownabbey following temporary disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This initiative delivered by Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership has been operating across the area for ten years.
The Community Safety Wardens play a pivotal role in the ongoing effort to tackle anti-social behaviour by providing a visible presence on the street.
The scheme is delivered by Sword Security and operates each Friday to Sunday from 5pm to midnight – key times for anti-social behaviour.
Chair of Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership Councillor Paul Dunlop, said the return of the scheme will discourage anti-social behaviour.
“Their presence is particularly welcome in those areas that are prone to this problem. I am encouraged they are returning to our streets and offering this support to the community,” he said.
Working alongside the PSNI, residents, the council and PCSP, the wardens play a key role in a reduction in anti-social behaviour not only via an on-street presence, but by also working with young people to divert their energies into more positive activities.
