Parents are being urged by police to be more considerate and to keep in mind the safety of other road users when dropping children off at school.
Police say most parents are responsible, but they are aware that parking facilities at some schools can be somewhat limited.
However, it only takes a few parents to park without any thought for others, with the result – a whole road is blocked.
“I’m just dropping my kid off!”
“This was the response a driver gave me this morning, outside one of the schools we visited, when I told him not to park on the zigzag yellow lines,” said a police spokesperson.
And they’re issuing advice to parents now that that new school year has started and it’s become colder with heavy rain showers.
Do not:
Park within 15m of a junction.
Park or stop to block access to any premises.
Park or stop on any parking restriction.
“By parking and driving responsibly we can help ensure everyone’s safety,” added the police spokesperson.
