A fire has broken out at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
French President Emmanuel Macron has written on Twitter: “I am sad tonight to see this part of all of us burn.”
It is not yet clear what has caused the fire. According to France 2 television, police are treating the incident as an accident.
The cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is famous for featuring in Victor Hugo’s classic novel the Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
A popular tourist attraction, millions flock there every year.
