Stores are primed and ready for their Boxing Day sales as traders try to make up for less busy than normal conditions in the run-up to Christmas.
Analysts say shops will be forced to discount even further to get rid of stock.
Boxing Day sales are traditionally a means for shops to clear out unwanted products, so that new stock can be introduced.
