A drug and alcohol awareness project which supports people with addiction, self harm or suicidal thoughts is to close due to lack of funding.
Now there are calls for politicians to do more to assist communities who are experiencing the withdrawal of vital services.
The Dungannon-based programme Breakthru operates in the Mid Ulster, Fermanagh and Omagh, and Armagh and Banbridge and Craigavon Council areas.
Breakthru has been supporting people in crisis for 23 years and recently experienced funding problems. It will close at the end of the month.
“It is with deep regret and heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Breakthru. Over the past 23 years Breakthru has supported those in crisis and some of the most vulnerable in the community through services for drug, alcohol, gambling and mental health issues. Despite attempts to secure the future of Breakthru it has not been possible and the project will close on the 31st March,” said a spokesperson.
The project organisers said they wanted to thank everyone who supported the campaign through Facebook, sent letters of support, emails and phone calls and who included them in their prayers, as well as those who lobbied on their behalf.
Staff have also been thanked for their dedication.
