There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour at Windmill Wood, Dungannon in previous weeks.
Mid Ulster District Council has called for an end to large gatherings of people.
Councillor Sean McGuigan, Chair of the Council’s Environment Committee, said: “The council is aware of ongoing anti-social behaviour at Windmill Wood, which has escalated during the recent spell of good weather we’ve had.
“These types of gatherings with upwards of 30 people not only contravene current COVID-19 regulations, but also impact negatively on the local environment through littering, and on residents in the area which should not and will not be tolerated.”
Newly appointed Chair of Mid Ulster Policing and Community Safety Partnership, Councillor Christine McFlynn said it’s vital that parents and guardians of young people know exactly what their child is doing outside of the home, especially in the summer time with the longer evenings and even more so in the current pandemic situation.
“Underage drinking and any behaviour that causes distress to residents and the public shows no respect for either the environment it happens in, or the residents that it affects,” she added.
Police are aware of reports of anti-social behaviour around Windmill Wood.
Inspector Gibson of the Dungannon Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Dungannon Neighbourhood Policing team will be routinely patrolling this area and we will be working alongside our colleagues in Mid Ulster District Council to ensure people can enjoy Windmill Wood. We would urge everyone to be mindful of the Health Protection Regulations and act responsibly.”
Anyone affected by anti-social behaviour at Windmill Wood is asked to contact the PSNI on 101, or in an emergency only, 999. Information can also be anonymously provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
