Scammers are continuing to target the elderly and police are reminding people to be vigilant.
In the latest incident, a scammer called an 82-year-old woman from the Bushmills area, pretending to be a police officer and left her a voicemail, informing her that there was an ‘arrest warrant’ out in her name.
The caller then instructed the woman to phone a telephone number, then press 3 on her handset to sort the matter out.
“Thankfully the victim did not ring the number back as no doubt the scammer would have been looking her bank details to sort out the alleged arrest warrant,” said a police spokesperson.
Householders are reminded NEVER to give out personal information, including bank details.
“Please remember not to give out your bank account details etc over the phone and report any suspicious activity to police,” added the spokesperson.
