Car leaves road and plunges into water killing father and two children

A businessman (49) and his two children, aged 14 and six, have died in a tragic crash in Co Donegal.

The crash happened on the Inishowen peninsula when a car skidded off the road and went into Lough Foyle.


They have been named as John Mullan (49) from Moville, Tomas (14) and six-year-old Amelia.

It happened at Three Trees, Quigley’s point, just after 10pm on Thursday.

In a statement, Gardaí said the car had been travelling from Muff towards Quigley’s Point just before the crash.

According to police, the driver ‘lost control and the vehicle skidded across the road and down the embankment and plunged into the water.’

The children’s mother was rescued and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where her condition is believed to be non-life threatening.

The bodies of the man and two children have been taken to Letterkenny Hospital where postmortems are expected to get under way today (Friday).
