A man armed with a suspected gun escaped with cash following a robbery at a shop in west Belfast last night (Wednesday).
No one was injured in the incident which happened just before 8pm.
Detectives are appealing for information following the incident..
Police say a man entered the shop armed with a suspected firearm and demanded money and cigarettes from a staff member. Another man remained outside armed with what is believed to have been a hammer.
The men then made off with the cash in the direction of the Springfield road.
Detective Sergeant Sam McCallum said thankfully, no injuries were reported.
“However, there’s no doubt this was a terrifying ordeal for the staff member who was in their place of work simply doing their job,” added the Detective Sergeant.
One man is described as being in his early to mid 20s, between 5ft 8” and 5ft 10” and of slim build. He was wearing a black coat, black tracksuit bottoms and a black baseball cap. The other man is described as being tall, of slim build and he was wearing a black tracksuit with his face covered.
“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1716 04/12/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” added the Detective Sergeant.
